S.W.A.T. 4 is a first-person shooter in which you play a member of an elite police tactical unit. You'll lead a team of five police officers to pursue and arrest dangerous criminals in the fictional city of Fairview. Unlike most FPS games this one isn't about guns-blazing action: as a police officer you're restricted in when you can use deadly force. Even non-lethal force has legal limits on when you can use it. Get too trigger-happy and you'll face penalties. Missions in S.W.A.T. 4 are less like the gun battles you might expect from a typical FPS and more like tactical puzzles. You'll need to use every tool at your disposal including the other members of your squad to solve them. You can issue commands to your team from a simple menu and see what they see over their helmet cameras. Coordinating all this information can be tricky but it's the key to success -- although it's frustrating when your team's AI which is good but not perfect fails to carry out your orders. Choosing the right equipment and weapons is also important each item has its particular strengths and weaknesses. S.W.A.T. 4 isn't as fast or action-packed as some other games in the genre but if you want something that combines tension and strategy give it a try.
