Cuphead is an indie platform action game in which you play the title character, a cute character with a coffee cup for a head. In this game, you have to race through level after cartoonish level, battling bosses to repay a debt you owe to the devil. The whole game is illustrated in the classic style of a 1930s Max Fleischer cartoon. As a run-and-gun action platform game, Cuphead evokes nothing so much as the classics of the Mega Man series. Like his robot predecessor, the main character is a charming, big-headed rogue who acquires a variety of new weapons over the course of his race. Between levels, you select your path through an overworld, creating a branching path in which you don't necessarily need to follow a single path between levels. In addition to his various weapons, your character also has a parry ability. Parry enough incoming attacks and you'll receive the energy you need to unleash a devastating special move. In multiplayer mode, your sidekick Mugman takes the stage to fight alongside you against the game's dozens of bizarre, cartoonish bosses. With its hand-drawn characters and charming retro aesthetic, this is a game that doesn't look like any other. If you like the action platform genre and visually innovative games, you owe it to yourself to check out the gorgeous retro-styled madness that is Cuphead.
